Clear Local Cache and Destroy Local Data

Overview

M-Files saves documents and information of Vault contents locally to make M-Files faster to use. While storing this data locally provides faster usage, sometimes it is necessary to clear it. In these cases, please follow the instructions below.

IMPORTANT! Please make sure all your documents and files are fully saved, closed and checked-in to M-Files before you proceed with the following instructions.

What's the Difference?

Here is a table that shows what Cached content can be removed with Clear Local Cache and Destroy Local Data.

Clear Local Cache

Local Cache can be cleared from your M-Files Desktop. While in M-Files Desktop, press Alt -key to access the menu bar at the top. Choose 'Settings' tab and browse down to 'Clear local Cache…'

In the next window that opens, you can remove all temporary files you want from the list. Even If there is nothing listed, click Finish.

Next, click OK and your Local Cache is cleared.

Destroy Local Data

Before proceeding, please double check that all your documents are saved and checked-in. Unsaved changes will be lost during this procedure.

First, Log Out of M-Files Desktop. Either left-click your initials in the top right corner of M-Files Desktop and choose 'Log Out' or navigate to the Notification Area on your Windows Taskbar, right-click the M-Files icon and choose 'Log Out'.

Once you've successfully Logged Out of M-Files, navigate to 'M-Files Desktop Settings' from the Windows Notification Area.

A list of 'Document Vault Connections' opens. From the top, navigate to the 'Settings' -tab and choose 'Computer-specific Settings'.

From the list, choose the right Vault and Username option, and click 'Destroy'.

Click 'Yes' and close the rest of the windows.
