Property Definitions: Show all versions of an object

Last updated on 20 June 2022

Admin

Overview

A user can right click an object to view its History and see all previous versions of it. Sometimes however, the user wants to have all the versions of an object with certain properties showing and listed within a View. View Properties has 'Look in all versions' checked but the View still doesn't show all versions.

Solution

To make sure all versions with specified property can be seen within a View, User with M-Files Admin rights needs to set it up from Property Definitions.
Steps to Set Up

  1. Open M-Files Admin

  2. Navigate to the Vault and expand it

  3. Expand Metadata Structure (Flat View)

  4. From Property Definitions choose the property or properties you want to enable version visibility for

  5. Right Click to open Property Definition Properties

  6. Untick 'Do not search for old object versions'

  7. Click OK.

Disclaimer! If there are a lot of documents with the specified property, having all versions showing for all users filtering Views with that property might affect the performance.
