Overview
On-premises customers receive their licenses through an automated licensing system. Requirements for enabling this feature are
- An internet connection
- Update to M-Files version 2024.8 or newer.
No manual installation of this feature is necessary, just an internet connection with the ability to connect to our Azure based licensing service.
The automated license delivery will remove the need to manually install licenses to your on-prem server completely. The changes to your licenses will be reflected on your server without manual effort within 24 hours of changes being made to your subscription.
The validity of your server license will be 30 days if the automation has been turned on, unless your subscription is ending within 30 days.
Solution
If you want to ensure that the system can be enabled successfully, ensure M-Files version 2024.8 or newer is installed on your server.
To check if license automation is already enabled on your on-premises server, open M-Files Admin and navigate to License Management. If "License expires" shows exactly 30 days from the current date, license automation is active. For more information, see the User Guide: License Management.
An internet connection to M-Files is required for the license automation to function. Port 443 should be open for outbound traffic in your firewall. For enhanced security, traffic can be only allowed to following URIs:

If you still have issues setting up connections to our license automation, please contact us through the M-Files Customer Support Portal.
If your server license shows a validity of less than 30 days, please ensure the connections mentioned above are allowed. Please also verify your subscription end date.
