Overview
The previewer software used in M-Files desktop client, can be changed from using the M-Files default (PDF-Xchange) to the Windows default previewer. This change might be needed if documents include elements that are not fully supported with the M-Files default previewer or the use of other 3rd party software is more preferred.
The change will affect all the file formats that have M-Files preview support:

Solution
Setting the below registry value to '0' forces M-Files to use the Windows default PDF viewer, for example Adobe Acrobat DC (if defined). Forcing the system default previewer has the downside that the 'Hit Highlighting' is not available anymore, as by default M-Files uses the PDF-XChange which has been used in implementing the hit highlighting. Note that after applying the registry settings, it may be necessary to restart the M-Files Client service for the setting to take effect.
Registry Key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Motive\M-Files\<Version>\Client\Common\NonVaultSpecifics\PreviewHandlers\.pdf
Value Name: AlwaysUseBuiltinViewer
Value Type: REG_DWORD (DWORD 32-bit Value)
Value data: 0 (use system default previewer if applicable),
1 (default always use M-Files built-in previewer)
