Advanced Outlook add-in: Change in license check-ups

Overview

The old Advanced Outlook add-in (MAO) has now a dynamic license allowance mechanism, that will always provide a license. This document describes technical background of the feature.

Solution

As part of MAO's process improvement, the license list requests have been discontinued as of August 2023.

The feature works on a per-user licensing model. Your purchase is limited to the number of users for which you have purchased licenses.

The licensing server requires each user to activate a license and will from time-to-time re-validate the license for each user. This allows the licensing server to maintain a count of users active at any one time.

Previously when the number of active users on a license exceeded the licensed user count, the licensing server would not allow further licensing, and additional users would not be able to use the product. This did not take account of inactive users who were still counted as licensed users. This has led to a high number of support calls for customers to understand their licensed users, and then remove inactive users to allow the new users to be licensed correctly.

The new process will allow the additional users to obtain a license immediately. We will then monitor active users of the system. At contract renewal, or from time-to-time within the contract, your MAO account team will contact you if more licenses are being actively used than your subscription allows.
