Overview
The Compliance Kit June '23 Update (23.6.1132.x) introduced an improvement to the Object Creator module that allows an object to be created by a configured Object Creator button when multiple items are selected in the listing, merging all selected objects as the source.
Prior to this improvement all rules were expected to only use a single object as the source.
This change affected all existing rules and there was no way to disable this new behavior.
This can lead to confusion where previous rules – that expected to only work when one object was selected – were shown when multiple objects were selected.
Solution
To resolve this, the Compliance Kit January '24 Update (24.1.1172.x) introduces a new "Allow Multi-Selection" option in a Create Rule's Source definition, allowing administrators to specify whether the rule can use multiple objects as a source.
To keep in line with the legacy expectation of rules defined prior to June ‘23, the default for this value is “No”, so the Object Creator buttons will only appear when a single object is selected.
If, since June ‘23, customers have defined rules that are expected to operate when multiple objects are selected, the “Allow Multi-Selection" option for each rule must be explicitly set to “Yes”. This is a manual change that is required at the time of upgrade, and only for rules that are required to operate in this way.
Example
In M-Files Admin, in the Configuration > Other Applications > Compliance Kit > Object Creator section, it is expected to define for each rule whether the Object Creator is to be displayed in multi-select context.
For each applicable rule where this is intended, select the Yes value on the Allow multi-selection parameter, in the Source level of Create rule.
A configuration allowing Object Creator command button to be displayed when multiple documents are selected.
