Hierarchy depth for users from metadata (pseudo-users)

Overview

You can use so-called pseudo-users, or users from metadata, when defining permissions directly for an object or for automatic permissions or named access control lists.

Products and Versions

M-Files version 9 and later.

Solution

Sometimes more indirection levels are needed. This is possible by adding the following registry setting on the computer where you are doing configurations.

Registry key:  HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Motive\M-Files\<version>\Common

Value name:   PseudoUserHierarchyDepth

Value type:     DWORD

Value data:     Number of wanted indirection levels. Default 2.

This registry setting is needed only while you are doing configurations and you can remove it or set back to 2 when you are done. The configuration will remain valid even if you reset the registry setting so that you can't browse to the level where the configuration was made.
