Overview

If your vault contains a connection to an external repository (network folder) which has metadata indexing enabled on it, it is possible to determine the external object count from the vault indexing.

Solution

Follow these steps on the local server machine for M-Files. If you would like to find this information on a Cloud vault, please reach out to support@m-files.com:
  1. You can check the number of "files indexed" from the indexlog.finished.txt file within the server machine's file directory.
    1. The file path should look similar to this: C:\Program Files\M-Files\Server Vaults\Testing Vault\Indexes\MetaData
  2. Within the indexlog.finished.txt file, you will want to check the "Indexing completed" section, which should appear as follows:

This information is useful if you have a vault which only has objects from external sources, as it is otherwise not possible to find the object count via the traditional means of doing a one-time export
