How to manage date and number formats in M-Files

Overview

The date and number formats that are visible in M-Files are following the formatting set in Windows regional settings on Current user or System account and, in M-Files Web, the browser language preference. When using M-Files with M-Files for Microsoft Teams, date and number format follows Teams app language.

M-Files Desktop

M-Files Desktop follows the regional settings of the client computer. Current user regional settings can be managed from Control Panel -> Clock, Language, and Region -> Region:

M-Files Server

M-Files Server uses regional settings of the System account, and this may sometimes result in different formatting when date values are calculated on the server.

For example: Server Regional Settings and formats are set to English (United Kingdom) and user has English (United States) formats set. Property "A" has an automatic calculated value using the date property "B" as a placeholder. The user sees the date property "B" value as 12/28/2017 (MM-DD-YYYY) but the automatically calculated property "A" shows the date as 28.12.2017 (DD-MM-YYYY).

System user regional settings can be controlled from Control Panel -> Clock, Language, and Region -> Region -> Administrative tab -> Welcome screen and new user account settings -> Copy your current settings to: -> Welcome screen and system accounts. This copies the current user settings to the system user after you select OK.

After this configuration change, current user and server should have the same settings. From the above example, the date property "B" and the calculated value "A" should now both show the date as 12/28/2017 (MM-DD-YYYY).

Note that it's not possible to change the server's regional settings on M-Files Cloud. However, you can modify the date and time formats for calculated values in the vault settings via Advanced Vault Settings > Properties > Format for Calculated Dates and Times.

M-Files Web

M-Files Web follows the language preference of the user's browser. For instance in Google Chrome, this preference can be modified via Settings -> Advanced -> Languages. The top preference is used as the UI language for M-Files Web and also controls the display format of date properties.

M-Files for Teams

M-Files for Teams follows App language setting via Settings -> General -> Language:
