Identifying where a notification is sent from in M-Files

Overview

In M-Files there are many ways to configure notifications using the built-in tools or applications that support notifications. For example, the Compliance Kit Advanced Notifications module is capable of sending more customizable notifications than the built-in or custom rules in the classic M-Files desktop.

The different notifications can be used simultaneously which can result in difficulties later on identifying where the notification is configured from.

Solution

  • The built-in and classic desktop custom notifications include a default footer text that can be used in conjunction with the template text in the notification so see where it's coming from:

"You are receiving this message on the basis of the following notification rule in M-Files:

[Vault Name]:"

Please see Personalizing notification messages for further information on custom notification messages.

  • For Compliance Kit Advanced Notifications module, a footer text can be enabled and configured which will appear after the notification body text. It's good to note that if footer is enabled and no footer text is configured, the footer will simply be empty.

Compliance Kit notifications require a notification rule object to be created in a vault which can be searched in any client. For example parts of the body text can be used to search for such objects.

  • It's also possible to create notifications via vault applications (VAF). You can refer to The Vault Application Framework for further information on vault application framework.
