M-Files license expires notification - How to see on which server the license is expiring

Overview

If you receive a notification "M-Files license expires" after logging in to a document vault, the server license is expiring on the server where the vault is located.

The notification can also occur on the computer's startup if one of the M-Files Desktop client's document vault connections has the "Log in automatically when Windows is started" setting in use.

Suppose you receive this notification when starting the computer, and your M-Files Desktop client has many document vault connections to vaults located on different servers. In that case, it is not necessarily clear to what vaults and servers the license expiration notification is related.

This article instructs how to check on which server the license is expiring on.

Solution

In on-premises environments, M-Files system administrators can check the server license's status from the M-Files Admin tool's License Management section.

On the client computer side, you see which server's document vaults the license expiration is related by the following steps:

  • Log out from all vaults.
  • Then, log in to each vault one by one.

When you receive a license expiration notification after logging in to the vault, you know that the license expires on the server where that vault is located. You can see the vault's server information from the M-Files Desktop Settings: How to Open M-Files Desktop Settings.
