M-Files Desktop

Overview

Users who want to manipulate how certain files open in M-Files when they are double clicked.

Solution

  1. In M-Files tap the 'Alt' button on your keyboard.
  2. Choose Settings.
  3. Choose M-Files Desktop Settings.
  4. Click on the Settings Tab.
  5. Click on the User-specific Settings bar.
  6. Click on the Behavior by File Extension bar.

Here you can add file extensions or determine which file extensions open to "read only", "check out", or "ask" the user when you double click them. If you choose to add an extension, you will need to choose a default behavior for it.

Once you have determined the appropriate behavior for the file extensions in question, you will click on the OK button and then click OK again.

At this point, you should still have the M-Files Desktop Settings dialog box, open on the Settings tab.  If you choose, you can export the User-specific settings registry file and make those the default for your company via GPO. (see screenshot below)
