Overview
How to permanently remove a deleted object from M-Files
Solution
Note: The user will need to destroy deleted objects manually, otherwise those won't be deleted. Improvement ID 162019 was created to destroy deleted objects automatically after a retention period.
There are two options to manually destroy an object:
- Use the desktop client to destroy the objects. You can create a view or run a manual search to find deleted objects.
- Run a scheduled replication export job periodically with the following filter:
- Select 'Export objects and files'
- Use a search filter: Deleted = Yes
- Select 'Destroy exported objects after export'
Then delete replication packages from the server, if those are not needed anymore.
If you have MS SQL vault, to completely remove the files, you need to run manual optimization with the option 'Delete the files of destroyed objects' enabled.
