Some properties are visible in Classic Desktop but hidden in New Desktop/Web in M-Files (MDCC)

Metadata Card Configuration

Overview

In some cases, there could be a situation where, for example, users are migrated from the Classic Desktop to the New Desktop or to Web client but there arises a problem when filling in metadata for some objects. In this case it could be noted that the new clients are missing some properties that users can see in the Classic Desktop. It doesn't matter if the user adds the property themselves, it will still be hidden and not found by searching the property via 'Add property' dialogue if it already exists on the metadata card.

Please note that this only applies to those specific properties using the property groups and only in cases where the metadata card rules are applied. For example, if object type filter is used, it's possible that the property is hidden only in that object type.

Solution

In this case the issue is likely related to a known issue CAT-432 where if Metadata Card Configuration is used, specifically where properties are added to property groups, but the groups are not used in the configuration. This will result in the properties to be hidden only in new clients.

Before proceeding with fixing the configuration, please copy the JSON of the configuration (advanced tab > CTRL+A > copy) and save it locally for easy restoration if issues arise from the changes.

The are two solutions to this issue:

A) The property groups must be configured to be used in the configuration.

B) Remove the property groups from the affected properties.

At the time of writing this support article, there's no timeline when CAT-432 is fixed. However, once the fix is released the ID can be found in the M-Files release notes: https://product.m-files.com/release-notes/.
