Overview

An end user will receive an error message similar to what is shown below on their workstation.

CustomControlSite.cpp, 1051, Object doesn't support property or method 'AttachToListingWindow' (0x80040008)
Home Screen: home.htm, 222, Object doesn't support property or method 'AttachToListingWindow' (0x80040008)
MErrorHelper.cpp, 2457, Object doesn't support property or method 'AttachToListingWindow' (0x80040008)
(M-Files 22.2.11149.3)

Solution

Typically, this is caused by a corrupted install or an error in the user's profile on their workstation.
A) GPO settings may have caused this problem to occur. However, there is no specific "class ID" extension for M-Files which could be disabled to avoid the problem. There is an example where another customer was able to avoid the error by disabling IE add-in restrictions in GPO. If the operation of Internet Explorer has been restricted by Group Policy
Objects (GPO) in some way M-Files will stop working. The following settings in GPO must be enabled:
- Administrative Templates/Windows Components/Internet Explorer/internet
Control Panel/Advanced Page/Allow third-party browser extensions:
Enabled
- Administrative Templates/Windows Components/Internet Explorer/Security Features/Add-on Management/Deny all add-ons unless specifically allowed in the Add-on List: Disabled"
B) Reinstall M-Files and create a new windows profile.
C) Note that the error can be avoided by disabling the Home Screen application in M-Files Desktop - Doing so only disables the Home-tab on the home screen.
M-Files DMS Home Screen application:
1. Open M-Files Desktop application.
2. Click ALT button from keyboard -> A toolbar menu will appear on the top of the M-Files Desktop client.
3. Choose Settings -> Applications -> Disable 'M-Files DMS Home Screen' - > Press OK
4. Logout from M-Files Desktop -> Log back in.
