Overview
There are multiple search solutions that can be used with M-Files. dtSearch, IDOL, and Smart Search.The default search engine is called dtSearch and one limitation is that while the search will go through the vault as expected it will only consider up to the first 100k results. If more than 100k results meet the search criteria, the search will fail.
Solutions
Should you be getting search failures due to too many search results then:First, see if you can just refine your search to return fewer objects. Add some filters or more specific criteria to narrow the results.
And if there are too many instances where reducing the results is not feasible then you should consider migrating to one of the other search engines detailed in the document linked above.
