Overview
This article describes what is the meaning of the message: "Your search request yield too many results." that is seen in the M-Files Desktop Client when doing a full-text search. This article will also provide a possible solution on how to solve this message.
Description
This message is trying to warn the user that the word the user was searching for gave so many results that not all result could be shown.
The message can also occur if running full-text search with advanced search filtering for relatively small amount objects. This is because M-Files runs full text search first on background and then filters the results based on the criteria in Advanced search. If the full-text search results exceed the limit and therefore the message was given.
M-Files has an improvement request (ID 134054) made that aims to avoid this kind of message by running the advanced search criteria first and then the subset of results returned from those conditions would be searched with the full text.
The system issue fixes and improvements will be informed in the release notes with the issue ID: https://www.m-files.com/customers/m-files-online-release-notes/
Solution
Here are presented two possible solutions on how to prevent the message:
1. Try to use more specific sentence/word to find the object.
2. Editing the Advanced Vault Settings in M-Files Admin.
M-Files Admin - Advanced Vault Settings
1. Open M-Files Admin
2. Open the desired Vault and navigate to the Configurations
3. Open Advanced Vault Settings > Configuration > Search and select Full-Text Search
4. The warning message might be solved by raising the File Limit for Automatically Stopping Search and Maximum Number of Words to Retrieve.
Disclaimer: Please be considered when raising these two values as this can impact the overall performance of M-Files.
