Overview
This article contains instructions on how to enable logging for troubleshooting, share and delete the log file in M-Files Mobile on Android. This feature is available as of the June 2024 release.
Note: Do not share the log file with untrusted parties.
Instructions
To collect logs, you need to do the following:
- Open the logging screen.
- Enable logging.
- Reproduce the issue.
- Collect the logs (usually share the log file from the mobile device to your administrator).
- Disable logging.
- Delete the old log file to avoid confusion.
Read through the article for instructions on those steps.
Open the logging screen
There are two ways to open the logging screen.
From the Settings screen
- Login to M-Files Mobile app.
- Open the Settings screen.
- Scroll to the Application settings and select Logging.
From the app shortcut menu
- In the application list locate M-Files Mobile app.
- Long press on the M-Files launcher icon.
- From the popup shortcut menu select "Logging".
Note: this option is useful if the login does not work, and the Settings screen is impossible to reach.
Enable logging
To enable logging, turn the switch toggle button on. If the option is enabled from the Settings screen, the logging will start immediately. If the option is enabled from the app shortcut menu, the logging will start the next time the M-Files Mobile app is started.
How to use the logging functionality
After the logging option is turned on, use the app to reproduce the issue you are facing to record the logs to file.
For example, if it is a login issue, open the app and try to login as usual. Let the connecting UI show for some time before closing the app and retrieving the logs. If there is an application crash, use the app to produce the crash.
The log file will automatically appear and become available in a couple of minutes. If you do not see the log file ("app_log.txt") on the Logging screen, close and open the M-Files Mobile app again.
Note: The file size is restricted to 3 MB and the newer log entries will overwrite the old ones.
Share the log file
When the log file is available, the share button becomes enabled. To share the file, press the share button and select the preferred file sharing option from the popup menu.
Disable logging
After sharing the log file, for better app performance it is recommended to disable the logging by turning the toggle switch off.
Note: The logging will be disabled automatically after 5 days. If the user needs to enable the logging again, it can be enabled manually accessing the Logging screen via Settings or app shortcut menu as described above.
Delete the log file
To delete the log file, press the delete ("X") button next to the file name. The log file will no longer be available. Make sure the logging option is turned off when no longer required, otherwise the logging will still be enabled, and the log file will be automatically created again.
