Overview

This article shows how to create persistent link to a document vault on local workstation so that it does not expire or stop working during the software update.

Solution

At some environments, there is a need for users to create a shortcut to the document vault that will work also after the software update.
The software update changes the path of the installation of the software by version number, so direct Windows shortcuts would possibly not work properly over time.

To create a persistent shortcut to the document vault, create a new shortcut as follows:
  • Right-click on Windows Desktop or at the folder where you want to add the shortcut.
    • Select New > Shortcut

  • The syntax for the shortcut is explorer.exe <path-to-vault>. The document vault name must match the one that is set in the M-Files Desktop settings for this document vault.
Kuva, joka sisältää kohteen teksti Kuvaus luotu automaattisesti
  • Give a descriptive name for the shortcut
Kuva, joka sisältää kohteen teksti Kuvaus luotu automaattisesti

  • The result is a shortcut, looking like this:
Kuva, joka sisältää kohteen teksti Kuvaus luotu automaattisesti
Double-clicking this icon will lead you to the login screen, if you were logged out from the document vault.
If you were logged in, the document vault will open to the home screen.
