M-Files: Preview of Files Not Showing Inserted Image in File

Overview

Sometimes files with inserted images may appear like the below image in the preview pane.

Solution

The core issue here is likely the OS previewer for Word files. This can show up in Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc files. M-Files uses the OS previewer in most instances so the issue we are seeing is coming directly from the OS previewer.

 

This can be tested by searching for the file in question. This converts the file to a PDF for hit highlighting. Alternatively, this file can be previewed from the M-Files Web Access. This will also always convert the file to a PDF for previewing.

 

A solution for this issue is possibly to force the file to be previewed always with the M-Files preview software which will always convert to PDF. The following KB provides a registry for that
