Overview
Suppose you use M-Files Admin and you open any Properties dialog from some vault; for example, you want to open the Properties of some user or an object type. The dialog doesn't open, and you receive an "Unspecified error" type of error message, as shown in the example below:
CoSnapIn.cpp, 561, Unspecified error. (0x80004005)
Item_User.cpp, 576, Unspecified error. (0x80004005)
PropertySheetUser.cpp, 155, Unspecified error. (0x80004005)
PropertySheetUser.cpp, 1114, Unspecified error. (0x80004005)
Item_DocumentVault.cpp, 2256, Unspecified error. (0x80004005)
UsersAndUserGroupsListCache.cpp, 52, Unspecified error. (0x80004005)
UsersAndUserGroupsListCache.cpp, 106, Unspecified error. (0x80004005)
Item_UserGroups.cpp, 598, Unspecified error. (0x80004005)
CoSnapIn.cpp, 1008, Unspecified error. (0x80004005)
CoSnapInComponent.cpp, 1128, Unspecified error. (0x80004005)
(M-Files 24.9.14055.3)
A similar type of error may appear when you try to open any other Properties dialog related to any other vault.
Reinstalling M-Files on a client computer with the M-Files Admin tool doesn't likely help (the issue can remain even after reinstallation), so it's not likely an effective way to resolve this specific issue.
This support article has instructions that can help resolve it.
Solution
The issue may appear when many windows are open simultaneously in M-Files Admin. You can check if this is the case via the M-Files Admin's Window menu:
It will show a list of currently open windows in M-Files Admin.
If several windows are currently open in M-Files Admin, switching back to the M-Files Admin's "default" window (name starting with "Connections to M-Files Servers/.." and typically the first window in the list) or closing any additional windows may resolve the issue.
Note: Before closing any additional windows, check first if there are any unsaved changes that should be saved.
